Update After the Assassination of the President

Categories: Uncategorized @en

We were very saddened and discouraged by the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse.  We pray that justice be done. Many are saddened by the way he died, but many murdered him every day with their words.  Haiti’s future is uncertain. It is one struggle after the other.   The Prime Minister will lead the country, but the opposition also seems to have planned to take power.

For us, life remains about the same except that we go out very little to make ourselves invisible. The commando consisted of 26 Colombians and two Haitian Americans.  Five Colombians are still on the run as I write. The population is looking for them, so it is dangerous for any Spanish-speaking man to go out into the streets. One could be mistaken. It can also be dangerous for any foreigner.  We do not know how the situation will turn out.  We had planned to take a few days off and on the day we were going to leave, the airport was closed and the Prime Minister declared a state of siege for 15 days.

Gedeon International has sent a container of Bibles to Haiti. We are very thankful.  It represents over 25,000 Bibles.  They are kept in the church premises before being distributed.

Pray that Mrs. Martine Moïse, the wife of the assassinated President, will fully recover from the bullets she has received, that she forgives her aggressors and opponents and that she may also write a book.

Pray for a movement of the Holy Spirit so that people will marry God, because the country is in a dangerous turning point with gangs, murders, kidnappings and covid.

Thank you for your prayers.  They are very much appreciated.
