40 Years, Half a Lifetime

During the retreat for global workers from Latin and Central America, I was pleasantly surprised to be recognized for my 40 years of service. Michel, for his part, had been with Mission Global for 38 and a half years.

One of our teachers recounted that, when he lived in Delmas 19, he used to go for walks around his neighborhood with another young man. One day, they found themselves caught in the middle of a shootout between a gang and the police. When the police opened fire, they immediately fled.  Unfortunately, during the clash, his friend was shot and killed. He himself managed to take refuge at a neighbor’s house. Deeply shaken by his friend’s death, he nevertheless thanked the Lord for protecting him and for not letting him perish that day.

Armed gangs have been wreaking havoc recently on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince. Reports indicate that 78 people lost their lives during clashes in Cité Soleil and Duvivier. Hundreds of families have been forced to flee. It is reported that 1.3 million people have been displaced since the start of the armed gang war, which intensified in 2021 following the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse.

Our church is often chosen for funerals because it is spacious and located outside conflict zones. Some pass away, but others come to Jesus. During a call to action by Pastor Anna one Sunday, four young people gave their lives to Jesus. Even though four may seem like a small number, “there is more joy over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine others who do not need to repent.” Luke 15:7

We are deeply grateful for your support of our work in Haiti. If the people repent, there will be a great multiplication.
